Together, Lawson and Pollard, under the moniker of 2boys.tv and sometimes even as their alter-egos Gigi L’Amour and Pipi Douleur, create and tour multimedia performance pieces that often incorporate video projections, soundscapes, found and original music scores, transgendered apparitions, outrageous (sometimes sculptural) costume, props, vocal/textual works, and the art of lip-sync. Based in Montréal, CANADA, the duo has also produced several video art pieces (including Occupée [2004], Something Old… [2003], Teddy Bear’s Picnic [2002]) Their videos, installations and trans-disciplinary performance works have been presented in clubs, galleries, theatres and cabarets across Canada (Montreal, Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary, Vancouver) as well as in New York City, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona and Buenos Aires.

In 1993, Dana Maria Gingras co-founded The Holy Body Tattoo (with Noam Gagnon) as a multi-media dance company. Since its inception, the company has captured a number of significant awards and honours for both its stage and film work. In 1997, our brief eternity won The Dora Mavor Moore Award for Best Ensemble Performance. The work has been performed over one hundred times in Canada, Europe, USA, and most recently in Australia at the Sydney Opera House. Circa, which received the inaugural Alcan Performing Arts Award, has been performed around the world, including at Ein Fest in Wuppertal, Germany at the invitation of Pina Bausch, and at London’s Barbican Theatre. monumental, The Holy Body Tattoo’s last work, involved the company’s largest performing ensemble to date. Co-produced by the National Arts Centre, monumental premiered in Ottawa at the National Arts Centre in February 2005, toured nationally and was presented at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles. In 2006 Gingras formed a satellite company Animals of Distinction, directed and choreographed two Bravo! FACT shorts and created Smash Up a full evening presentation of solos and duets conceived as a collision between dance, animation and sound with animator/ programmers James Paterson and Amit Pitaru. Smash Up is a co production with the Festival TransAmerique and premiered in Montreal May 2008, followed by a presentation in Quebec at Salle Multi de Meduse. For the past year Gingras has been working as a guest artist in collaboration with Lynda Gaudreau/Compagnie De Brune on Black Out which is planned to premiere in May of 2010. Artiste interdisciplinaire, créateur radiophonique et compositeur, André Éric Létourneau organise dès les années 1980 un réseau de distribution international de horspiel et de documentaires radiophoniques à travers le réseau des radios communautaires francophones. Il s’intéresse alors aux médias de masse comme manière de rassembler et d’interconnecter les communautés aux intérêts complémentaires tout en favorisant les rencontres inédites entre personnes sur les ondes radiophoniques et dans des espaces publics ou privés. Il étudie et travaille l’organisation communautaire des orchestres de gamelan balinais et séjourne régulièrement en Indonésie où il prend part à des projets d’art à caractères artistiques et humanitaires. Il a réalise des projets en arts visuels et des performances pour différents centres d’artistes autogérés et Musées. Auteur d’essais et d’articles, il s’intéresse depuis quelques années au patrimoine culturel immatériel et aux rituels de guérison amérindiens destinés aux populations marginalisées.

18 février 2006 : Système Kangourou signe son premier événement performatif, un déambulatoire dans un 8½ de Montréal. Terminant une maîtrise en mise en scène où elles creusent les notions de bricolage, d’aléatoire, de risque et d’autoreprésentation, Claudine Robillard et Anne-Marie Guilmaine fondent ainsi, avec le scénographe Jonathan Nadeau, une compagnie où elles pourront catalyser leur complicité artistique et leur désir de faire de l’art autrement, dans un souci tant éthique qu’esthétique. Depuis ses débuts, Système Kangourou cherche à investir, à sa façon, des zones hybrides, par une recherche interdisciplinaire à caractère sociologique. Avec honnêteté et audace, cette démarche expérimentale se concrétise par la production d’événements de performances in situ ou de spectacles de théâtre performatif, dont le jeu scénique se fonde sur l’autoreprésentation, l’action et le rapport direct avec les spectateurs. Au fil des créations, Système Kangourou s’engage de plus en plus sur la voie d’un art citoyen, par le développement de partenariats avec des organismes communautaires, des collaborations avec différents groupes sociaux marginalisés et l’animation d’ateliers dans les cégeps. www.systemekangourou.ca

Fondé en 2000 par Catherine Lalonde, le Péristyle Nomade mobilise artistes et créateurs pour réaliser des œuvres qui revalorisent et alimentent les rouages de nos villes et de nos communautés. Il met en place des plateformes de création et de diffusion alternatives; l’art interdisciplinaire s’y affirme par des interventions impromptues, des dons d’œuvres éphémères ou durables, et des événements rassembleurs. Laissant libre cours au métissage des disciplines, l’art urbain, l’art hybride, les performances et les nouvelles technologies se rencontrent et s’insèrent dans le paysage urbain, tout en favorisant la rencontre et le dialogue avec la communauté. Le Péristyle Nomade est aussi un agent de transformation. Issue du monde de la création théâtrale, Catherine Lalonde se tourne rapidement vers l’exploration de la performance et de l’intervention multidisciplinaires. Elle poursuit des études en maîtrise/création à l’Université du Québec à Montréal, où elle s’intéresse aux différentes composantes de l’art urbain et aux traces laissées par l’intervention éphémère. Passionnée par tout ce qui entoure la culture, elle allie travail artistique, engagement coopératif et production d’événements. En 2000, elle fonde le Péristyle Nomade, compagnie artistique consacrée à l’art interdisciplinaire. En 2003, elle participe à l’ouverture de la coopérative de travail Touski, café de quartier où elle continue de contribuer à l’élaboration d’un réseautage local et à la revalorisation du quartier Centre-Sud de Montréal. Depuis 2006, Catherine Lalonde se consacre principalement aux activités du Péristyle Nomade, dont les projets d’interventions Commandos 2361; les ateliers Panta rhei; le parcours Labyrinthe artistique; et l’événement d’art urbain l’Écho du fleuve, dont la troisième édition aura lieu en juin 2010.

Wants&Needs danse is an original dance company under which choreographers Sasha Kleinplatz and Andrew Tay produce both their individual and collaborative choreographic work. These two co-Artistic Directors met in Windsor, Ontario when they were both nine years old. At the time Andrew was already an expert tap dancer, and Sasha had just begun ballet classes. Their paths diverged and then met up again at Concordia University where they began to collaborate together. Bringing their two very different movement sensibilities together, their work is a unique combination of human relationships and street-wise style, blending contemporary dance thought process and melding it with aesthetic elements as diverse as club culture and rock and roll. With an aim to expose contemporary dance to as many as possible,Wants&Needs danse is constantly seeking out innovative ways of presenting work outside of the traditional dance mould. Collaborating with leading musicians, fashion and graphic designers, the company bridges the gap between art forms, making dance relevant to those outside of the core contemporary dance community. In keeping with their goal of diversifying the audience for contemporary dance, the company has become known for their unique productions which take place in non-traditional dance spaces. Upon graduating from the Contemporary Dance Department at Concordia University, Sasha Kleinplatz was honored with the James Saya Award for Excellence. Sasha has completed choreographic residencies at the Fondation Jean-Pierre Perrault, the summer artist in residency program at Studio 303, a week-long intensive with Kathy Casey and her company Montreal Danse, and most recently a week at the O Vertigo centre for creation. In 2009 Sasha received the award for Most Innovative Local Choreography at the St. Ambroise Montreal Fringe Festival. She had her work produced in numerous venues including Espace Tangente, Ecole National de Théâtre, Studio 303, Theatre D’Aujourd’hui, and Studio Mange mes Pieds. Sasha and her company Wants&Needs danse (co-founded with Andrew Tay) produce the popular Montreal dance events Piss in the Pool, and Short&Sweet.

Since finishing his B.F.A in contemporary dance at Concordia University, Andrew Tay has had his work presented at Espace Tangente, Studio 303, Festival Vue Sur La Releve, Festival OFF.T.A (Montreal), the Square Zero Dance Festival (Ottawa), the Performance Mix Festival (NYC) and the Festival of New Dance (St. Johns). Residencies have included the Foundation Jean-Pierre Perrault, and a residency at the O Vertigo Centre for creation. In 2005, his work was shown in video form as part of the Cirque de Soleil event Torrida. Andrew and his company Wants&Needs danse (co-founded with Sasha Kleinplatz) have produced the popular dance events Piss in the Pool and Short&Sweet in Montreal for the past 5 years.
