CONTENT // A Gaga/People class is one hour in length and is open to people ages 16+, regardless of background in dance or movement. No previous dance experience is needed.
The teacher guides the participants using a series of evocative instructions that build one on top of the other. Rather than copying a particular movement, each participant in the class
actively explores these instructions, discovering how he or she can interpret the information and perform the task at hand.
Gaga/people classes offer a creative framework for participants to connect to their bodies and imaginations, increase their physical awareness, improve their flexibility and stamina, and experience the pleasure of movement in a welcoming, accepting atmosphere.
BIO // In 2012, Laura graduated from the first official Gaga Teacher Training Program in Tel Aviv, Israel. Gaga was developed by the Artistic
Director of the Batsheva Dance Company, Ohad Naharin, and it is part of the company’s daily training regime. Laura is the only certified Gaga teacher in Canada. She has experience teaching at
the Suzanne Dellal Center for Dance and Theatre in Tel Aviv, the contemporary dance company Ate9 in Los Angeles, the Ottawa Dance Directive (ODD), and the Ottawa School of Dance’s professional
contemporary dance programme. Laura’s training background spans throughout Canada, the United States, Belgium, England, Spain and Israel. She has recently moved to Montreal.

STATEMENT OF TEACHING PHILOSOPHY // My own dance and choreographic practice is firmly rooted
in classical ballet technique, and is specifically informed by contemporary traditions stemming
from Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham and José Limon. As a teacher however, I place as
much emphasis on self-awareness as I do on historical and cultural awareness. I work from
a fluid perspective, stressing both creative and personal development, through a disciplined
knowledge of dance technique, choreography, repertoire, partnering, performance, collaboration,
as well as Yoga and Pilates. By underlining the special importance of preventative and restorative
techniques, I try to instill a deep respect for the body and a healthy approach to dance practice.
