”This is a very important choreographic tool installing clarity and intention into an often chaotic milieu.” – Andrea Sproule, 2012

Back by popular demand, this workshop is a chance for choreographers, advanced students and emerging professionals alike, to focus on honing their tools and sharing their process with others. This year, the workshop takes the form of a 25-hour intensive, which includes an introduction to the basics of Action Theater. Each day, we will introduce a different compositional element: space, time, levels, direction and shape. We will explore it thoroughly by improvising with the concept and playing with it in space and composing small studies. We will witness each other, observe and communicate what we see and feel. Using improvisational methods from Action Theater™, Sarah Bild will guide us through rich explorations that will awaken our creative impulses. We will approach composition from an internal experience, to hone our intuition and honour our creative instincts. Two hours of each day will be devoted to Action Theater exercises, offering a glimpse into this transformational practice.

Sarah Bild, a Montreal dance artist and choreographer, has been creating, teaching and performing in Montreal and throughout Canada for the last 25 years. She teaches composition at L’École de danse contemporaine de Montréal and has trained intensively with Ruth Zaporah, founder of Action Theater™. Now a certified teacher in the technique, Sarah is the first to teach the practice in Quebec. Ever devoted to the dance form, Sarah is constantly seeking to broaden her perspectives on choreography by sharing and seeking with her students.
