Located in downtown Montreal, Studio 303 is a beautiful space for intimate production with simple technical level. You can do presentations or projections. We welcome up to 10 productions per year.

Important information
When using our space, we ask that you please:
– Note that our legal capacity is 100 people, including staff, artists and audience.
– Pay close attention to our floor. Make sure your shoes are clean and avoid heels, sharp objects (including tripods). We can lend you felt if needed.
– Restore the space to its neutral state. We ask that you would be prepared to take responsibility for any clean-up that your rental requires.
– Do not nail, screw, scratch or punch holes into walls, ceiling or floor. Hanging equipment on the pipes is permitted only in consultation with Studio 303’s technical Director.
– Your reservation will be confirmed upon receipt of your deposit.
– Note that we require a $100 deposit for damage, or additional cleaning.
– Note that it is impossible to control sound bleed from the other offices in this public building.
– Note that the studio does not rent for parties. It is forbidden to smoke and alcohol is allowed only with permit.

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

Included in studio rental fee:
– Access to our 1,748 sq ft studio (76 audience capacity), shared public rest rooms and 1 dressing room (all accessible).

– Benches (seats 53); 21 chairs; 15 mini chairs; cushions (seat 8)
– 3 wooden tables (2.5’ x 5’), 1 wooden table (3.5′ x 2.5′), 1 plastic table (2.5′ x 6′) and 1 cocktail table (2′ x 2′)
– Mobile bar
– A house technician for your event
– Event liability insurance coverage
– Access to the expertise of Studio 303’s friendly and professional staff

Not included:
– Additional event supplies, i.e., flatware, dishes, table cloths, etc.
– Additional staff, i.e., additional technicians, front of house staff, etc.
– Additional time in the space – $25/hr plus applicable staff fees
– Alcohol permit ($40 for 1 night, $50 for 2)

NOTES
– In our experience, this schedule works the best but actual schedule will depend entirely on the complexity of your project / needs.
– The studio is rarely available before 5pm on Fridays.
– The Belgo entrance (street level) locks 9pm weekdays & 6pm weekends.
– Seating capacity = 53 benches + 20 assorted (75 max.)
– Legal capacity (no seating) = 100 max, including all artists and staff.

$250 = Studio rental (full day + full day + 2/3rd day)
$232 = House Technician fee (estimated time: 14.5hrs x $16/hr)
$60 = Security door person (after 9pm weekdays / 6pm weekends)
$35 = Administrative fee includes pre-production correspondence, meetings, etc. (Additional administrative support in excess of 2 hours is available at a cost of $17.50 / hour)

How much does it cost to rent the studio for an independent production?

Can I access the lighting / sound / video systems?
All technical equipment is included in the price of rental for Independent Productions.

What is the process for booking an independent production?
Step 1: Check the availability calendar to make sure the dates you are interested are free. **NB: Please allow for 8 weeks minimum advance. We cannot promise to accommodate last-minute inquiries.
Step 2: Use the request form to request a soft-hold or a cost estimate or to begin booking your independent production at Studio 303.
Step 3: Send a detailed schedule of how you will use the studio time to technique@studio303.ca (ie: load-in, set-up, Q2Q, run-through, show time, etc)
Step 4: Our technical director will correspond with you to clarify and approve your request.
Step 5: Your contract must be signed and $200 deposit paid a minimum of 1 month in advance of your event. At this time we ask the renter to meet with Studio 303’s house technician to exchange any questions or information.

Are there mirrors in the studio?
No mirrors in the studio. There are large mirrors in the dressing room.

Can we eat or drink in the studio?
No, thank you.

Are there tables and chairs in the studio?
Yes.
Tables: 2 @ 2’ x 3’ solid oak tables, 1 @ 2’ x 2’ cocktail table, 1 @ 2’ x 6’ plastic folding table.
Chairs: 20 @ white folding chairs (hanging behind black curtains at double-door entrance; 15 @ short black chairs.

Is it possible to access a fridge?
There is a fridge in the Studio 303 office. Renter’s access to this is at the discretion of the Studio 303 house technician.

Are there showers accessible at Studio 303?
No.

Can I book the studio for a 2 week run?
Access to the studio outside of the weekend is usually not possible. On an extremely rare occasion there may be weekday availability but only during the following months: Last week of June – 1st week of September; 3rd week of December, 2nd week of January.

Can we do an Indy Prod on a weekday?

Is there a place to store our gear?
It depends on how much space it takes up but generally not very much space, no.

Can we serve alcohol?
If you apply for and receive your special event alcohol permit in advance, please send a copy to technique@studio303.ca and display it in plain sight during your event.

Is the studio available?
Maybe! Check our online Studio Availability Calendar.

Can I use my own TD? / Can I hire my own technical staff?
A member of Studio 303’s technical staff must be present on-site for the entirety of all independent production rentals. You are welcome to furnish your production with as many technical staff from your own connections as you wish; for safety and security reasons, they will be supervised by Studio 303 staff.
But my TD is a real professional; he does this kind of thing all the time!
Great! Then he will understand why we require our own staff to supervise all technical rentals.

Can we store our equipment with you?
Only during the hours of your rental. Outside of these hours, storing your equipment at Studio 303 poses many problems for our staff, regular programming and other renters. Please make arrangements for delivery / pick up to respect this.

Why can’t we rent the studio for a full week?
From the beginning of September to the end of June we offer weekly master class workshops for professional development in the mornings at Studio 303 as well as nightly drop-in open level contemporary dance and other movement classes in the evening. For this reason, weekday rentals are impossible Monday – Thursday.

Why can’t we have shows on weekday evenings?

Is there a formal selection process for independent productions at Studio 303? If so, according to what criteria?
Your rental request must be approved by Studio 303’s staff Technical Director who will assess your submission based on feasibility of technical expectations.

Is there a maximum number of collaborators who can participate in an independent production at Studio 303?
No but do keep these numbers in mind: The dressing room comfortably fits 6 performers; the Studio 303 maximum capacity according to fire-code is 100 people standing; Studio 303 can only comfortably seat approximately 80 audience members when the entire seating system is installed; classical audience/performance-space configuration provides a stage of 25’ x 25’.

Can newly graduated artists, with little / no independent experience, submit an application?
Yes.

What is the maximum studio time we can hope to have?
Usually from Friday at around noon until Sunday evening until around midnight.

What types of projects are favored?
Projects that:
– Allow a minimum of 8 weeks advance time to prepare the contract & negotiations.
– Are able to respect the integrity of Studio 303’s space by not scratching, puncturing or marking the floors, walls or ceilings
– Projects that pay their deposit and sign their contract a minimum of 4 weeks in advance of the rental.

Is the creation / research time included? If not, how can we have access to the studio for this purpose?
