This short workshop will invite participants to explore those aspects of self that sit at the edge of perception, just out of sight, in the shadows, or at the marginalized end of identity. The two days will be at once intensive and restorative, and participants will be able to determine their mode of participation in line with what they need.
We will spend the first day working solo and collectively to find our edges, undoing some of the poisonous positivist work that we can feel forced to use to describe ourselves as artists. On the second day, we will enter into dialogue through sharing practice, words, space, time, and food.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the workshop.

Rajni and Kris have been friends for many years, and have slowly unfolded conversations about gender identity, outsiderness, and community-building while living on different continents. They are excited to be working together on this project, and to share some of their processes with a small group of participants during the workshop.

Rajni Shah’s work as an artist leans gently but clearly across disciplines, countries, and thought structures. Since 1999, they have made performances, writings, and other gatherings, all of which open up spaces for conversation and meeting across difference. rajnishah.com

Kris Grey/Justin Credible is a gender queer artist whose work combines strategies of communication, activism, community building, education, lecture, and studio production. kristingrey.com

Rajni and Kris identify as: trans, gender-queer, of colour, Indian, outside, held, mentor, gentle, confused, strong, ready, unprepared…

They will be performing Ropewalk at VIVA! Art Action in collaboration with Studio 303 in September 2019 (date TBA).
