CONTENT // This series of classes is inspired by Canadian figure skater Gary Beacom. In competition, skaters submit a technical element sheet to judges, a document that outlines all the jumps, spins etc. they complete as part of their skate. Beacom was famous for an element sheet that had one thing on it: a question mark. He was a technical wizard: he had edge work that no one else explored or emphasized, but did few jumps. He is a great example of an athlete / performer who had a broad sense of what is technical.
? will challenge and broaden our sense of what is technical where movement is concerned.
We will be practical: task and partner-based work will drive much of this exploration.
We will go down tangents, bigtime: we will attempt to not limit our curiosity.

BIO //  Alanna’s approach to movement practice is informed by her career as a professional contemporary dancer. She is a close student of Linda Kapetanea and Jozef Frucek, developers of Fighting Monkey Practice (FM). FM is an evolving movement practice centered on context driven, collaborative practices that harness physiology and whole-body coordination through play to accelerate skill development.
Alanna shares her knowledge of movement in various communities including dance, theatre, fitness, and centers for at-risk youth.

Evening classes are open to all levels, and it’s always possible to drop-in without registering in advance.
