CONTENT // In this class we will move and write, to explore possible relations between dance and language. We will look at how language can shape a dance, and how a dance can inspire writing. The class proposes that dance and language are both ways to live and cause transformation, to shape shift. We will look at improvisational techniques and compositional techniques in dancing, and at poetry writing and abstract storytelling through language. Sometimes we will write with pen and paper, sometimes we will move while we speak, and sometimes we will just shut up and dance. I will share various dance scores that inspire imagination, and encourage us to balance abstract ideas with the concreteness of the moving body. We will work on translation from words to movement and movement to words, enjoying poetic resonances, and faking it until we make it. The aim is to have fun, to sweat, access physical creativity, and to take a break from your own brain by practicing creative thought.
