CONTENT \/\/ Making<\/strong> Dance \u2013 choreographic practices and performance<\/b>; underlines the unique characteristics, abilities and signature of the individual (the student) through various easy to learn and apply choreographic scores. The 14-week course focuses on developing a movement vocabularies and building repertoires through a process-led research in company with others. Each class begins with a group warm-up to live music (repeated weekly) followed by creation; improvisation-exploration, collaboration, and performance. <\/p>\n

BIO \/\/ Suzanne Miller<\/strong>\u2019s choreographic work evolves through dialogue with people, place and history using dance as a form of knowledge \u2013 memory and making. Immediacy and transformation are central to her work. Using the body as a starting place to commemorate forebears\u2019 and invoke ancestral and artistic lineage attempting to create allegories that activate and revive a social consciousness. \n

Since 1985 Suzanne Miller\u2019s dance productions, site works and recent explorations in film have toured in North and South America, Europe, The Middle East and recently in South Asia participating at international festivals and residencies. Her wide-ranging practice as a soloist, choreographer, teacher and company director has led to many artistic exchanges and commissions. For nearly 35 years, Miller\u2019s enduring collaboration in life and work with composer Allan Paivio, share the artistic direction of Suzanne Miller & Allan Paivio Productions. Based in Montreal QC, their repertoire includes over fifty original works developed for the theatre and site works.\n

Working professionally since the age of 17, my formal background in dance embraces a broad spectrum of artistic enquiry. The best teachers in my life are also practicing artists who have the courage to reach beyond what they know to explore and innovate language to extend the conventions of their respective traditions. A culturally diverse, vibrant body of artistic and pedagogical tradition informs what I do. I lead from a fluid, open perspective, while stressing a dancer\u2019s personal expression; a disciplined knowledge of dance technique, choreography, collaborative processes, and dance history. I underline the special importance of preventative and restorative techniques to impart a deep respect for one\u2019s body and a healthy approach to dance practice. I work hard to establish a generous, inclusive atmosphere while setting the highest standards for intelligent and thoughtful artistic practice.<\/p>\n

Evening classes are open to all levels, and it\u2019s always possible to drop-in without registering in advance.<\/b><\/p>\n
