Please bring back Charles, the most collaborative and generous artist!\u201d &#8211; Anonymous<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tinana | Whenua introduces indigenous philosophical perspectives to explore concepts of body and landscape. Participants are invited to investigate the intersections between humans and environments and how they affect our cultural and individual relationship to territory and ancestry. The foundational approach of the workshop is to examine and develop an understanding of the individual, communal and ceremonial body in movement and performance. To consider the experiential body within the greater context of land and acknowledge a landscape of culture, politics, history and spirituality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop invites participants to bring and contribute their artistic practice to research movement, improvisation and performance with facilitator Charles Koroneho. Tinana | Whenua will be conducted in the studio and outdoors on the site of Mont Royal. It also offers those who have a specific interest in indigenous and contemporary performance an opportunity to explore this process in situ; to develop an understanding of how contemporary culture, creativity and indigenous philosophy are proposed within the experiential learning environment of Te Toki Haruru; the conceptual platform and framework for performance research and presentations by Charles Koroneho<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Charles Koroneho<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> works in the fields of culture, performance, visual arts and education. &nbsp;He created Te Toki Haruru (est 1997) to explore cultural collaboration and the intersection between dance, theatre and design. His projects are presented as performances, workshops and research exploring the collision between Maori cosmology, New Zealand society and global cultures. Charles is a graduate of the New Zealand School of Dance and Elam School of Fine Arts. He has performed extensively in New Zealand and abroad with Te Toki Haruru, Lemi Ponifasio MAU, and worked in collaboration with Min Tanaka and Guillermo Gomez-Pena. Charles shares his vision of dance and performance by providing movement, improvisation classes and creative workshops for dancers, actors, performance artists and supports the arts community as a collaborative director, cultural consultant and mentor. In 2014, Charles was awarded The Arts Foundation of New Zealand Arts Laureate for Dance. He was appointed Adjunct Professor for the Contemporary Dance Program, Unitec Institute of Technology for 2017-2018. <\/span><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p><b>All workshops are for professional performing artists.
