Thank you!<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n<p><em>This workshop is part of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.studio303.ca\/en\/queer-performance-camp-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Queer Performance Camp<\/b><\/a>, a collaboration between Studio 303, MAI (Montr\u00e9al, arts interculturels) and La Chapelle Sc\u00e8nes Contemporaines.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>CONTENT \/\/ <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>DAY RAVE<\/em> is a collaborative creation process that looks towards rave culture in order to find tools for making choreography together. Inspired by both the collectivity and autonomy of raving during these unprecedented times where particular ways of gathering have been caught up in the fraught frameworks of il\/legality, it feels important to consider this space, this culture, as a site of generative possibility. In this workshop, we will spend much of our time dancing alone, or together, cultivating movement practices that stem and originate from our own unique desires, against the desires of those around us. What we make of it, what we do with it, is up for grabs. RAVE CULTURE SHOWS US THE WAY.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>ACCESSIBILITY \/\/ <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I&#8217;d like to think my workshops are all accessible because much of what I am planning on doing is holding space for encounters and collaboration rather than working with a set of tools or movement vocabularies that may be inaccessible. But I also acknowledge I may have blind spots in this area and am hoping that if anyone were to have any questions that they would get in touch with me. The music will be loud, people will be encouraged to move, and sweat, but aside from that there aren&#8217;t any other blaring things that may\/may not happen which could prevent those with disabilities from participating.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>BIO \/\/ <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Malik Nashad Sharpe<\/strong> is an artist working with choreography. Creating primarily underneath the alias Marikiscrycrycry, He creates performances that are formally experimental and engaged with the construction of atmosphere, affect, and dramaturgy. His works often traverse across social themes and topics as portals to unveil and unearth ulterior and undercurrent perspectives. He has been especially concerned with the affective and textural qualities of dance and how it can transform, disarm, and critically reflect upon mourning and melancholia.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His works have been presented internationally and across many different contexts including:&nbsp; Fierce Festival (UK), American Realness (USA), Submerge Festival at BAC (USA), Block Universe x EWerk Luckenwalde (DE), Impulstanz at Schauspielhauals (AT), BUZZCUT at CCA Glasgow (UK), NOW Festival at The Yard Theatre (UK), at Montreal arts et interculturels (CA), Theatre La Chapelle (CA), Menagerie de Verre (FR), The Place (UK), Panoply Performance Lab (USA), Steakhouse Live at Rich Mix (UK), Queer and Now at Tate Britain (UK), Tramway (UK), NottDance at Nottingham Contemporary (UK), Beursschouwburg (BE), Les Urbaines Lausanne (CH), Duckie (UK), Marlborough Pub and Theatre (UK), Theatre in the Mill (UK), Transmission Gallery (UK), Quarterhouse Folkestone (UK), Toronto Community Love-In at Pia Bouman Theatre (CA), Gessnerallee (CH), Attenborough Centre for Creative Arts (UK), Cambridge Junction (UK), London Fashion Week (UK), Center for Human Rights in the Arts\/OSUN (USA), Battersea Arts Centre (UK), Institute of Contemporary Arts (UK), amongst many others.&nbsp;<\/span><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He has made choreography for the English National Opera (UK)\/Gate Theatre (UK), Young Vic (UK), Hampstead Theatre (UK), Royal Court (UK), and at National Theatre (UK) as a part of Summer Space to Create, and have been featured in publications including British Vogue, American Vogue, Vogue Polska, Dazed, Dazed Beauty, Crack Magazine, Howlround Theatre Commons, i-D, Nowness, Love Magazine, Bricks Magazine, amongst others and he was recently named by Attitude Magazine as a Rising Star in Dance. He is currently an Associate Artist at The Place, Hackney Showroom, Studio Resident at Somerset House Studios and he was formerly an Artist-in-Residence at Tate Modern and Tate Britain, and at Barbican Open Labs. He is also currently an artist-in-residence at Sadlers Wells. He is a regular contributor to Mission Statement Magazine, and his writings have been published by Vulnerable Paradoxes, MSM, MCQ, and the Capilano Review.
