CONTENT
<\/strong>This workshop is intended for artists and performers from all backgrounds interested in developing a video practice and exploring the translation of performance into moving images.<\/span><\/p>\n

How can a video work simulate Live-ness, the pulsing energy of a performance? Can it, should it? What moves an image forward, and how can knowledge in dance inform the videos we make<\/span><\/p>\n

In this workshop, we will examine the differences between making video as documentation vs. creating dance-video. <\/span><\/p>\n

We will survey different stylistic strategies applied by iconic cinematographers to contemporary choreographers that push the possibilities of feeling in film. <\/span><\/p>\n

In-person explorations of equipment will be offered with basic how-tos to demystify the technology. Local resources will be shared as well as detailed strategies to embrace limitations of space, time, and funding.<\/span>Previous experience with video software and equipment is not required but participants are encouraged to bring their equipment if they\u2019d like.<\/strong><\/p>\n


<\/strong>ACCESSIBILITY
<\/strong>Each day will be a combination of group discussion and embodied exercises.  The discussions will be prompted with audio and visual content that will be projected in the studio. The embodied exercises will be gentle and can easily be adapted – mostly explorations of how the body and it\u2019s movement can produce stylistic qualities in framing, pacing and following.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n


BIOGRAPHY
<\/strong>Nina Vroemen <\/b>is a self-taught filmmaker and dancer, interested in the way videography and choreography inform each other through pacing, illusions, intuition, and improvisation. <\/span>After five years of working in reality TV (Discovery Channel), she began making work for her community, creating videos for dancers, artists and musicians (Tangente, Danse-Cite, Flemish Eye, Secret City Records).<\/span><\/p>\n

She is based in Tio\u2019tia:ke \/ Montreal and is of settler descent. Beyond video she has a practice as an interdisciplinary artist working in projection, multimedia installations and sonic experimentation. She seeks projects that quicken the heart, that engage in critical research, ecology, sensorial inquiry and immersive fieldwork. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n
