OBJECTIVE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This workshop plays with socialized notions of sexiness + the Buddhist concept of the hungry ghost. The hungry ghost in Eastern philosophy represents the insatiable hunger alive in people, often associated with craving and addiction. Stripping has roots in many dancing cultures, including the ballet, as an exchange between dancer and patron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stripper Gollum<\/em> serves as a mutable figure grappling with their feelings of emptiness, longings, and the longings others have of them \u2014 to develop a compassionate humour towards both inner and outer hauntings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CONTENT<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each day will begin with a guided workout to get nice and warm and sweaty while listening to music. After warming up, we will dive into state-based research. We will turn this research into a personal choreography before collectively expanding upon it as a group phrase that will deepen both physically and dramaturgically throughout the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I encourage playing at the \u201cresilient edge of resistance\u201d \u2014 a term named by Chester Mainard. This term was formed in the context of erotic massage to describe a touch that isn\u2019t too hard and isn\u2019t too soft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BIOGRAPHY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moving between sound and performance, Be Heintzman Hope<\/strong> is a facilitator of music, dance and embodiment ritual based between Tio\u2019tia:ke\/Mooniyang, colonially known as Montr\u00e9al and the unceded territories of the x\u02b7m\u0259\u03b8k\u02b7\u0259y\u0313\u0259m (musquem), S\u1e35wx\u0331w\u00fa7mesh (Squamish) and s\u0259l\u0313\u00edlw\u0259ta\u0294\u026c (Tsleil-Wateuth) peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their practice bridges dance training with conflict resolution, healing and community arts. They hold workshops in transitional spaces, dance institutions, universities, DIY contexts and festivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a physical level, their body is engaged in experimental dance making, meditation, Daoist martial arts, gyrokinesis, and a shit ton of physio. Their studies in eroticism, energetic boundaries, meditation, medicine, illness, and death are at the foundation of their practice. A larger part of this work is a quest to co-create alternative economies and community-based structures of radical tenderness and care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
