<\/span>Wednesday + Thursday + Friday: Be Heintzman Hope<\/b> co-teaching with <\/span>Colin Self<\/b><\/p>\n

Wxmb Cxre<\/strong> is an embodiment practice in breath, voice and movement guided by Be Heintzman Hope. This practice gives voice to the child inside as it involves the excavation of thoughts, memories and feelings imprinted on the body.  Ever seeking to move at the speed of trust, this research asks, \u201cwhich sounds are alive in my body? What areas of my body carry which sounds? How does the tone of other people’s voices land on my body? And how does my voice affect others?\u201d In this practice, the use of tone as language is a diasporic act of resistance to colonial language(s) and the loss of our mother tongue(s) that encourage serious and playful dialogues that center kinesthetic empathy. Through researching the archive of the body and how it stores sounds and textures in the voice, there is the capacity to unveil multiple voices and therefore multiple selves all living in the paradoxic house of one body. Participants will experience being solo, in pairs, as well as in a group dynamic.<\/span><\/p>\n

XOIR <\/b>is a non-utilitarian vocal workshop led by Colin Self focused on alternative modalities of group singing. Rooted in somatic research and experimentation, the goal of Xoir is to foster a generative environment for individuals to connect with voice and vocality on an individual and collective level. Xoir works with the logic of being \u201cautonomous together\u201d and points into ancient and futuristic logic of ungovernable modalities of community organizing.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Xoir is open to anyone interested in exploring their voice as a tool for learning or re-posturing a new relationship to singing and listening. Prior participation in choral or vocal practices is not required, but any prior experience with listening and engaging experimentally in a musical or studio practice is encouraged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Moving between sound and performance, <\/span>Be Heintzman Hope<\/b> is a facilitator of music, dance and embodiment ritual based between Tio\u2019tia:ke, most commonly known as Montreal and Vancouver’s Coast Salish Territiores. Their choreographic and facilitative work has appeared in music videos, queer post-pornography and science fiction film. Former member of the collaborative duo Psych-Ich Lie \u2013 their work is rooted in creative kinship and relationship building. Over the past five years, they have established a breath, voice and movement practice under the name Wxmb Cxre. They have facilitated workshops for various organizations such as Sherpa Centre de Recherche, Studio 303, SBC Gallery, Articule, Cinema Politica, and The Center for Gender Advocacy. They are a 3 year artist-in residence at the MAI (Maison d’Arts Interculturels) and have participated in Impulstanz’s danceWEB scholarship program. They are co-founder of the Queer Body Workers Network Tio’tia:ke\/MTL connecting other queer and trans body workers with one another to create alternative economies of care. Within their hybrid practice they have performed in DIY contexts as well as larger venues and festivals locally in Montreal and Vancouver as well as in Berlin and Vienna.<\/span><\/p>\n

Colin Self <\/b>is a composer and choreographer based in New York and Berlin. He creates music, performance, and environments for expanding consciousness, troubling binaries and boundaries of perception and communication. His recent work, The Elation Series, is a six-part sequential opera about queer family and global transfiguration. In 2015 he released his debut solo record Elation and toured with Radiohead as 1\/3 part of the Holly Herndon trio. Colin has presented work at The Dutch National Opera, HAU Berlin, The New Museum, MoMA PS1, The Kitchen NYC, Issue Project Room, amongst various other festivals and venues internationally. Self is a Rhizome Commission Grant recipient for his video project ClumpTV, a Queer Art Mentorship Fellow, and was an Eyebeam Resident in 2016. He is a co-founder of the queer collective Chez Deep, and The Radical Diva Grant, and is a vocalist for the electronic duo Amnesia Scanner. His recent work, <\/span>The Fool<\/span><\/i>, was co-created with Raul De Nieves and presented at The Kitchen NYC in 2017. His most recent opera, <\/span>Siblings (Elation VI)<\/span><\/i> premiered at Donau Festival in Krems, Austria in 2017 and MoMA PS1 in March 2018. He has made music for various choreographers including a musical collaboration with Miguel Gutierrez for Jen Rosenblit and Simone Aughterlony’s <\/span>Everything Fits in the Room<\/span><\/i>. He recently completed his MFA at the Bard Milton-Avery Program and runs a non-utilitarian choir internationally. Self is a 2018 resident fellow at Etopia for FUGA in Zaragoza, Spain and released his second album Siblings on RVNG Intl. in November 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n
