RELAY artists will share excerpts from their research process, developed over 7 days at Studio 303.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RELAY is a new collaboration between Studio 303, Plastic Orchid Factory, and Mile Zero Dance\u2014a residency and presentation project. RELAY reflects the natural flow of an artistic process\u2014research, creation, and production\u2014each phase taking shape through a week-long residency and a presentation in each city throughout the 2025\u201326 season. The project launches at Studio 303 in November 2025 with a research week, concluding with a studio sharing as part of the SPARK Series. The project is made possible with the support of the CanDance Network and its Creative Exchange Project program.<\/p>\n\n\n

Artists & projects<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n
Camille Huang \/ Puncture and Pull<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n
Puncture and Pull is an inquiry on contact between the body and the \u2018puncture and pull\u2019 of the sewing machine. Objects, sound and dance converge to explore gendered attributions surrounding repetition, touch, machinery and its parts. The performer works with gestures haunted by a physical intimacy and industry. Describing the motion of a sewing needle, \u201cpuncture and pull\u201d also has an unlikely convergence with a chewing mechanism of predatory animals. The body becomes charged with pattern, pull, insistence, and a fleshy intertwining with machine histories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Camille Huang<\/strong>\u00a0(they\/she) is a performer making physical and visual works. They are an asian diasporic settler making works unfolding between the realms of dance, scenography and performance.\u00a0 Guided by attention and curiosity, they explore plural making sense of identity, relations and possible futures. Camille was awarded the Prix du CALQ Work of an Emerging Artist 2024 for their solo \u201cSlug Meal\u201d. Their choreographic works have been presented at SummerWorks Festival, OFFTA, Festival Entractes and Tangente. Camille received their training in contemporary dance and anthropology and now works as a freelance dancer, all the while engaged in the rigor and pleasure of making artistic works. They are a graduate of L\u2019\u00c9cole de Danse Contemporaine de Montr\u00e9al and have a BA in anthropology from Concordia University. Camille is living in Tiohti\u00e1:ke \/ Mooniyang \/ Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
Kait Ramsden \/ Do You Love Me?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n
Do You Love Me?<\/em>\u00a0is an interdisciplinary performance that explores the intersection of female desire and its censorship \u2013 particularly how the female body and its sexual agency are controlled, fragmented, and repressed by digital and societal forces.\u00a0Do You Love Me?<\/em>\u00a0wonders: which fantasies serve to enliven a sense of self and which dismantle it? Through live video mixing, contemporary dance, datamoshing, poetry, and sound, DYLM interrogates how desire itself becomes a source of censorship, not only through the overt objectification of women in media but also through the insidious ways in which the female form is kept from its wholeness, its full visibility, and autonomy.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kait Ramsden<\/strong>\u00a0(she\/her) is an interdisciplinary artist and dance educator playing at the intersections of dance, sound, video, and new media. She is of settler descent working and living on the unceded territories of the x\u02b7m\u0259\u03b8k\u02b7\u0259y\u0313\u0259m, S\u1e35wx\u0331w\u00fa7mesh, and Sel\u0313\u00edl\u0313witulh Nations\/Vancouver. Her work is interested in creating empathetic, irreverent, and contemplative spaces that prioritize attention and sensation as a means to connect with ourselves and those around us.\u00a0 Recent work includes\u00a0afterbirth<\/em>\u00a0a multidisciplinary dance and theatre performance which looks at the manipulative power of ritual and cult, and\u00a0goddaughter<\/em>\u00a0an experimental pop project where Ramsden can let the pop princesses thrive.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
Stephanie Cumming & Chris Bullough \/ fort<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n
Both Chris Bullough and Stephanie Cumming grew up in Fort McMurray, Alberta in the 80\u2019s and early to mid 90\u2019s. Despite its negative portrayal in the global media, it was a culturally vibrant albeit isolated place to grow up. They belong to a generation whose formative training in Fort McMurray laid the groundwork for an array of successful careers in dance, theatre, opera, screenwriting, and pop music, just to name a few. As teenagers in the 90\u2019s they weren\u2019t aware of the environmental impact of the oil sands industry. Generous arts funding ensured that they had access to arts education such as ballet, music and stage experience in a professional level community theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now, over thirty years later, Chris and Stephanie have reconnected out of a desire to collectively revisit their past and process the ambivalence they share about where they grew up and the confrontation that exists with their present realities of living as artists in a climate which is increasingly hostile to creativity. In a culture that values profit, where does the value of the artist lay? Chris and Stephanie grapple with these questions and in the process analyze those formative years that inspired them to become artists in the first place. Through their combined experience in various mediums and places, they attempt to find a common language that conveys the shared history they want to remember, the stories they want to tell and the conflicting realities of artistic work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biographies : Stephanie Cumming & Chris Bullough<\/strong><\/div><\/summary>
\n
Stephanie Cumming<\/strong> (she\/her) is a dancer, choreographer and actress based in Montreal\/Tiohti\u00e0:ke. Her work over the last twenty years has spanned the mediums of contemporary dance, theatre, film, and visual art. Stephanie was born in Dawson Creek, British Columbia and grew up in Saskatchewan and northern Alberta. Shortly after finishing her dance studies at the University of Calgary in 2000, she relocated to Austria where she became a fixture of the Viennese contemporary dance scene. Stephanie started collaborating with Austrian choreographer Chris Haring in 2003 and in 2005 was a co-founder of the Vienna based dance company Liquid Loft. Their work has been touring internationally ever since. Stephanie is also a long time member of the ensemble of the award winning Vienna based performance company Toxic Dreams. She also works in film, most notably in the lead role of Gustav Deutsch\u2019s Shirley: Vision of Reality.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
Chris Bullough<\/strong> (he\/him) is a theatre professional, instructor, musician, and community animator based in Edmonton\/Amiskwaciw\u00e2skahikan on Treaty 6 territory. \u200b A graduate of the University of Alberta BFA (Acting) program, he has worked as an actor, creator, producer, and director in Western Canada. \u200b Notable acting credits include roles in Love\u2019s Labour\u2019s Lost<\/em> (Sterling Award), Abraham Lincoln Goes to the Theatre<\/em> (Betty Mitchell Award nomination), and The Lonesome West<\/em> (Sterling nomination). \u200b He co-founded wishbone theatre, directing acclaimed productions like Waiting for Godot<\/em> and SHIMMER<\/em>. \u200b Chris holds an MFA in Directing and has written plays such as Apples and Oranges<\/em> and Penelope vs. \u200b The Aliens<\/em>. \u200b Currently, he is working with Sage Seniors Association as a Community Animator, supporting and sharing the gifts\/wisdom of isolated older adults, and writing songs and monologues for his new play, Return to The Undiscovered Country<\/em>. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/details>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
