Objective
For thousands of years, tales have passed through us, connecting us and awakening us.
But why do we continue to tell stories that are rooted in folklore?
Intended for multidisciplinary artists who want to discover or explore storytelling, the workshop invites participants to reflect on the stories that move them and how they wish to tell them, without the pressure of finding immediate answers. It offers tools for telling a story orally, without having to memorize it by heart.
In this short format, the story to be told will be proposed by the facilitators: it will be a fairy tale from the oral tradition. The workshop also includes an outing to the Festival interculturel du conte de Montréal, to discover the milieu, meet the people involved and enjoy the unique experience of being told a story.

Content
Each day begins with a gentle hour of listening to excerpts and archives, discussion and introspection. Participants will then practice telling a story collectively, analyzing its symbols and playing with the audience’s attention. Theoretical contributions on repertoire research and the landscape of storytelling will complete the exploration.

Biography
Fano Maddix (they-she) & Charly Mullot (They-she) are bound by a strong friendship, a passion for storytelling, and a shared desire to interweave traditions. Together, they dream of a queer movement within the Francophone folklore scene.
Fano is an Acadian storyteller who lives in Gespe’gewa’gi (Gaspésie), between the forest and ever-evolving stories. They tell stories rooted in folklore but growing sideways, with sci-fi, burlesque and lots of tenderness. Their latest show, Conte Bright comme un diamond, was presented at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines in February 2025.
Charly is a non-binary artist who immigrated from northern France to Tio’tia:ke (Montreal) in 2019. They alternate between storytelling, writing, directing, radio, and drag. Their influences and preoccupations (queer, feminist, social…) shape they write as well as their relationship to traditional repertoire, and they are also actively involved in several collectives working toward societal transformation.
