Entrance to the Belgo building and elevators

The building’s entrance measurement is 35″ (89 cm) and is equipped with a ramp and two automatic doors. Please note that the ramp has a steep incline (16%). The automatic door is locked at 9 p.m. on weekdays and 6 p.m. on weekends.

Once through the two airlock doors, you enter a large vestibule with a café on one side and a sign indicating several office/gallery spaces on the wall across from it. Studio 303 is not listed there: we are on the 3rd floor at #303 for the studio and #305 for the office. At the end of the lobby, you will find a large marble staircase and two elevators located down the hall on the right and left (there is no visible sign for the elevators from the entrance or the lobby).

Elevator dimensions: 52 “x 80″ (132 cm x 203 cm) with 42” (106 cm) doors

Loading dock: A loading dock is located at the back of the building on Saint-Edward Street. The freight elevator is available on call between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday only. The phone number of the building’s janitors is posted on the lift door: (514) 649-1059.

Restrooms on the 3rd floor

The closest restroom to the studio is located on the 3rd floor, 150 feet (45 meters) away from the studio. There is a small hallway with two gendered bathrooms at the end that have several stalls and a sink.

A single-stall, gender neutral washroom with an automatic door is available to those using mobility devices. It is located on the left side of the washroom corridor.

Specifications of the one-stall washroom:

Room size: 85” x 75” (215 cm x 190 cm), door width of 32.5” (825 cm) and sink at a height of 31” (79 cm). A support bar is installed on the wall behind the toilet at 36” (91 cm) from the floor.

There is limited maneuvering space as the door opens inward 47″ x 47″ (120 cm x 120 cm), the toilet seat is low at 15″ (38 cm), the horizontal grab bar is low as well, at 29.5″ (75 cm) and the transfer area is restricted on the side of the toilet bowl 20.8″ (53 cm). It can be difficult to access the raised toilet paper dispenser 47.2″ (120 cm) when sitting on the toilet.

When seated, it may be difficult to access the sanitary waste bin at 56.7″ (144 cm) and the paper towel dispenser which is raised to 50.3″ (128 cm).

Studio

The doors of the studio are not automatic but can be propped open. Both entrances to our studios are equipped with ramps (3% and 4% inclination). The main entrance is a double door that is 59” (150 cm) wide and is equipped with a panic bar. The second door is located at the end of the 3rd floor corridor and is 35.5” (90 cm) wide.

The main entrance is generally used to access the studio for our activities.

The studio is a large empty space with some movable furniture (a few tables, chairs, and stage stairs), allowing a clear path for people using mobility devices. The floor is covered with grass carpet at the main entrance and the rest of the studio has hardwood floors. A water fountain is available in the entryway, the taps are at a height of 29″ (75 cm). The performance and studio space is at floor level.

Risers are set up for some events. Front row seating is at floor level either directly on the ground with cushions, on benches or on chairs.

Changing room

The entrance to the changing room is accessible from the studio via a ramp, and from the corridor via the secondary entrance door. The doorstep of that entrance is not flush however. The width of the second door’s corridor is 42″ (107 cm) as it is also used as a storage area for folding chairs, cushions and a coat rack. The threshold of the changing room’s entrance door is raised 0.7″ (2 cm) with a restricted maneuvering space in front of the door of 39″ x 59″ (100 cm x 150 cm). The door is held open at all times by a stone placed on the ground. Coat hooks are at a height of 69″ (175 cm) but it is possible to put your personal belongings on one of the benches of the changing room as well. There is almost no natural light in the locker room and the light switches are at a height of 69″ (175 cm). There is a small mini-fridge on the floor available to artists, as well as a first aid kit.

Office

You will find Studio 303’s office (#305) just before the studio entrance. It is an open workspace for employees, and artists are always welcome to come in and ask questions and share their experience. The office is on floor level and is essentially made up of tables, chairs, a kitchenette with a fridge and a dining table located at the back of the office. There is a relatively large amount of maneuvering space in the office, but there may be a few removable barriers depending on the season and ongoing activities (bicycles parked in the lobby, equipment temporarily stored on carts, etc.).
