Through touch, listening, improvisation, writing, risk-taking, and ephemeral composition, we will explore agency, napping as a creative act and the making of fleeting scenographies.
In this workshop, participants will engage with objects through a series of playful tasks, constraints and scores inspired by the working methodology of Nien Tzu and Emile in their project More-than-Things (2022).
Nien Tzu Weng and Emile Pineault are Montréal / Tiohtiá:ke / Mooniyang-based interdisciplinary artists working at the intersection of dance, performance and visual arts. Nien Tzu, a Taiwanese-Canadian choreographer and lighting designer, explores movement, interactivity, and new media, playing with the balance between reality and fantasy. Emile, a choreographer, performer, and curator, delves into desires and sexualities, crafting sensory-driven performances that oscillate between unruliness and intensity. Collaborating for over five years, they have developed a shared artistic language rooted in curiosity and play. Their project More-than-Things, where they performed with 34 soft sculptures, explored touch, agency, and sensuality. The work was presented at Fabrik Potsdam, La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines, Carrefour Culturel Notre-Dame-des-Prairies and OFFTA Festival.
This workshop is supported by the Conseil de la formation continue arts et culture de Montréal (CFC) in collaboration with Studio 303 and REPAIRE. The CFC’s continuing education activities are supported by the Intervention-Compétences program, thanks to the financial participation of the Quebec government.
