Objective

This class offers a space for movement lovers of all levels to find joy in the practice of dancing together. Taking inspiration from my recent periods of study with post-modern dance innovator Deborah Hay, this intentional, dynamic class aims to open new pathways of movement both within ourselves and in how we relate to the world. Beginning with a few state-based exercises, we will work our way through a combination of set material and open scores that awaken the senses, build core strength, and expand our sense of aliveness and connection. With an emphasis on seeking pleasure, getting what you need, and committing fully to one’s choices, the class will culminate in a mini-dance party wherein we practice the impossible task of including everybody and everything in our experience of dancing.

Content

This movement-based class will be guided by a combination of vocal instruction and physical demonstration. While there will be some ‘set’ exercises, participants are encouraged to attune to and respect their own needs; it is always welcome to modify an exercise or step out to watch for a while if desired. Students are also welcome to contact the instructor with any accessibility concerns and I will do my best to accommodate.
