Objective

To offer an experiential space, an active laboratory, a safe environment for bringing out the basic motivations of the creative gesture and extending them, as directly as possible, in artistic and performative actions that reflect the peculiarities of identity of each of the participating artists.

Engage with, embody, and use the identity combinations, the distinctive characteristics that inhabit you, as the underlying materials for the artistic gestures in which you dedicate yourself.

Use the principles of the performative mode to go beyond one’s own creative reflexes in order to discover alternative ways of creating, through combinations of elements of different natures (gestures, words, actions, objects, temporalities, spatial settings, devices).

Develop one’s own creative, intervention, and communication strategies to create combinations of elements and structures (both planned and random) that reveal the interdisciplinary value of one’s artistic approach.

Improve one’s inventive capacity in all aspects surrounding the creative process, in order to concretize new perspectives in artistic production and dissemination with performative, interdisciplinary, and identity-based characteristics.

Ensure continuity in each artist’s creative process by communicating new methodologies and outlining new guidelines for work to be implemented both during and after the training.

Biography

In performance art since 1978, Sylvie Tourangeau (she/her) (artist, author, workshop facilitator and curator) is considered a pioneer of performance art in Canada. Performative actions, relational art and rituals of circumstance are all practices in which she is involved. She has published artists’ books and over sixty articles on a significant array of performers. She published with the TouVA collective in 2017 the bilingual book about the performative Le 7e Sens. Since 1995, she has developed several venues and contexts for artist residencies. She has expertise in individual and collective coaching for practitioners who contribute to the expansion of the performing arts and is a lecturer at the Université de Sherbrooke.
I’m happy to revisit Sylvie’s workshop again. Her guidance allow me to dive deeper into my creation journey. Also her teaching allows me to be sincere and present with my intention.
