Artists’ Voices

Since 1989, Studio 303 has been opening doors, creating opportunities for artists to experiment, grow and connect. Your support sustains this haven for artists who push beyond the mainstream, ensuring that access to the arts remains open to all.

Looking through our archives, we’re inspired by all the talent that has moved through our space and that is currently creating within it. Meet some of those voices and staff members here :

My residency at the studio was pivotal—an essential step before taking my work to Tangente. With the right support, I reconnected with my creation and refined it in preparation for my performances. Since then, this space has become a place I call home, where I feel both grounded and inspired to create.

"I had just started my position as communications coordinator for Studio 303 from a corporate job. That day, Marie-Reine, an artist-teacher leading a professional Waacking workshop, stopped by the office to invite us to a cypher happening in the next room. Curious, I followed—and what I saw took my breath away. In the studio, a vibrant circle of dancers cheered each other on, their energy filling the space with raw joy and freedom. It was more than movement; it was a moment of artistic liberation, of community, of support. And at that moment, I knew I was in the right place."

“I started here, in this same bright office, in 2013... young and beginning an unpaid internship. I didn’t come from dance or the art/queer sector, yet Miriam hired me. That time holds incredible memories. I learned so much—about ethics in the arts, and about making art itself. At times, the scarcity of our sector drained me, especially in spaces like Studio 303, which choose ethics and independence over conformity. I stepped away a few times, but always found my way back.”

“My first experience with Studio 303 was during the pandemic, through an online whacking workshop, a dance form born in the queer BIPOC community and not often seen in the professional dance world, led by the incredible Munezero Axelle. For the first time in my career, an institution didn’t question my identity as a professional dancer, and seeing Munezero Axelle—a Black woman like me—leading the workshop made me feel deeply seen. Studio 303 recognized my art practice as professional; that validation was transformative.”

It’s a lab for learning, experimentation, and discovery—a rare, nurturing space where senses and creativity intersect. Above all, it’s a vital haven for sensory and emotional expression in art.”
