By displacing trance and techno dance from the club environment into the dance studio, the HIGHER workshop offers the opportunity to experience and analyse dance in a hybrid formula between recreational and technical. The participants are guided with very specific focus into simple yet accurate activities such as dancing on the beat, dancing alone, and dancing with others attempting to reach a state of flow. Part of the workshop is dedicated to learning sequences of clubbing-like movements, inspired by Post-Gabber dance footwork.
Come investigate club culture physically! Good coordination, stamina, musicality, and curiosity towards techno and trance dancing are required for this workshop. Sneakers are obligatory!

Michele Rizzo (1984, Italy) graduated in 2011 at the School for new Dance Development in Amsterdam (SNDO), where he is now a guest teacher in choreography and movement research, and in 2015 at the Sandberg Instituut Amsterdam in the Dirty Art Department Master program for visual arts. His research operates at the crossover between performance and visual art, and produces performances with high visual impact, that merge sculpture, dance and theatre elements. In 2014 he started his project HIGHER, an investigation around club culture and club dancing. He taught workshops at the Dutch National Ballet, Ballet of Marseille, SNDO Amsterdam, Impulstanz Vienna, URB festival, DDD Porto.
