PROJECT // Lavalgay
BIOGRAPHY
Dani Tardif is a queer, non-binary author and multidisciplinary artist based in Tio’tiake/Montreal who sings and tells stories in various forms. Their films have been shown in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Europe. They are currently developing a project called Descendants (Htmlles 2024), a queer futuristic hypnotic sound narrative, and have been exploring queer fairy tales since 2023 (Montreal Intercultural Storytelling Festival, Rendez-vous des Grandes Gueules de Trois-Pistoles, La R’voyure, Dimanche du conte).
Audrée (she/he) loves battered objects and public pools at night. She appreciates the freedom provided by her DIY aesthetic, which allows for the creation of quick and dangerous prototypes. He likes it when things are funny, and it’s not exactly clear why. Her live works (Poneyzboyz, PITCH, Plaisirs partagés) and papier-mâché creations are a rickety bridge of charm straddling strangeness and accessibility. A scenographer and archaeologist by training, who has led and contributed to numerous projects in dance, theater, and circus, her weapons are costume, space, light, performance, illustration, and words, in various states of sharpness ranging from rough to very fucking sharp.

Lavalgay (working title) is a tragi-comic live arts narrative in the exploratory phase about our adventures as gay teens growing up hidden in the closets of suburban Laval. Through stage research inspired by the codes of science fiction, the work combines life stories, object theater, dance, video projection, and costumes to examine the suburbs and their impact on bodies in the construction of queer identity during adolescence. This is an exploratory project between Dani Tardif, storyteller and multidisciplinary artist, and Audrée Lewka, scenographer and multidisciplinary artist. |
