BIOGRAPHY
Daniel Diaz is a versatile dance artist, working as a performer, teacher and producer. He trained at institutions such as Zeugma, Nyata Nyata and Dunham Technique Certification Institute. He has danced for Ballet Raices de Colombia and Ballet Mexicain de Montréal, as well as for independent projects such as Claire Campbell’s “INterLOck” and Zab Maboungou’s “Mozongui”. Daniel directed the works “Kupkua” (2022) and “Tatacurecu” (2024) for Tondoa, where he has also been teaching workshops and weekly classes since 2017. He holds a bachelor’s degree in teaching from McGill University and is currently training with the Réseau de l’enseignement de la danse. His research focuses on teaching traditional, spiritual and identity-based dance.
Since 2016, Tondoa was born as a dance project aimed at reinventing traditional folk practices. Over the years, the organization has established benchmarks to guide its creative process, valuing members’ diversity in terms of age, gender, sexual orientation and origin. These differences have become an essential asset for the group. Today, Tondoa defines itself as a dance company dedicated to research and creation, inspired by Colombian traditions while adapting to the modern context. It aims to be a space for learning and exchanging ideas in a safe environment. In this way, Tondoa seeks to combine respect for Colombian traditions with innovation in management and artistic creation.
