THIERRY HUARD

PROJECT // Chosen family

Research project on multi-faceted interpersonal relationships within a group. Bringing together members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, this research aims to explore the concept of the chosen family.

It is through the need to connect with people with similar realities that members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community end up creating a second family. This chosen family then becomes the nerve centre of their lives for many.

The family can then be seen as a whole that is built and reshaped in various configurations. Two fathers, two mothers, single parent, adoptive parent, reconstituted family, but also vogueing houses, drag mothers, throuples, polycules, etc.

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS

BIO // An experimental queer artist, Thierry Huard is a creator in constant migration, moving from one medium to another. From choreography to costume design, from painting to textile art, Thierry creates a sprawling practice that weaves together his various fields of interest.

He moved to Montreal at the age of 17, having left his hometown to pursue studies in visual arts and contemporary dance. Since 2008, he has been working as an individual artist mainly in the Montreal dance scene, infusing his choreographic work with his visual practices.

His repertoire includes more than a dozen works for the stage, including his most recent, Les liens (2022), which explores the limits of intimacy and relationships. In recent years, his visual work, although diverse, has focused mainly on textile art, particularly the practices of crochet and macramé.
