The Skinner Releasing Technique (SRT) is an inclusive dance technique designed for professional dancers, actors, and musicians as well as for people with little or no formal dance training. It is a practice for all those with an interest in engaging in the dynamic dialogue between imagination and movement. Guided poetic imagery, music and hands-on partner studies facilitate deep kinaesthetic experience of movement. The practice stimulates the process of letting go of one’s tension and holding patterns releasing new possibilities in how we perceive and how we dance. SRT’s founding principles are based on the Alexander Technique and then applied to the dancer. Joan Skinner is among the early pioneers of dance who began introducing concepts of “Release” into her teaching: resulting in an influential and alternative way of studying dance which has now influenced all contemporary dance practices as we know them today.
Eryn Dace Trudell is an innovative and versatile dance artist. She has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of the art: producer, choreographer, performer, teacher, entrepreneur and researcher spanning three decades. Mother of two daughters, she is from Toronto and now lives in Montreal. She holds a BFA from Juilliard, is a certified teacher of Skinner Releasing Technique® and practices and teaches Contact Improvisation. Eryn specializes in inclusive dance practices, which, through artistic, aesthetic and physical exploration, ignite community spirit and collective consciousness. Her work embodies the values of inclusion, accessibility and well-being. Eryn is founder and director of Mama Dances | MamanDanse since 2005, specializing in dance for young families. She is a member of the Association of Contact Improvisation of Montreal (ACI), the Canadian Dance Alliance (CDA), the Régroupement Quebecois de la Danse (RQD) English Language Artists Network (ELAN) and is the recipient of multiple awards and grants for her research and dance creations.
